The tasks of the Bundesbank

The Deutsche Bundesbank is the central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany. Eurosystem monetary policy is the Bundesbank’s core business area. Other core business areas include the financial and monetary system, banking supervision, cashless payments and cash operations.

Organisation of the Deutsche Bundesbank

The Deutsche Bundesbank was established as the central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957. The Bundesbank's Central Office is located in Frankfurt am Main and employs 3,801 of the Bundesbank's total of 9,560 staff.

Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank

The Bundesbank's decision-making body is the Executive Board. It comprises the President, the Deputy President and other members.

Compared with the end of 1991, when the Bundesbank employed 16,500 core staff, the 31 December 2011 figure of 9,560 represents a decline of 6,940 employees or 42.1 %.
