The euro banknotes have been legal tender in all of the participating European Union member states since 1 January 2002. There are seven denominations, from 5 euro to 500 euro.
The second euro banknote series will be introduced as of 2 May 2013, starting with the 5 euro banknote. It will take a few years until all seven denominations of the second series are all in circulation.
