Contents of the report
These statistics concern securities deposits which are operated for domestic and foreign depositors ("B safe custody business") by the institutions required to report. In addition, domestic banks also have to report their own securities portfolios ("A safe custody business") irrespective of where the securities are being kept in safe custody. The statistics are collected at the end of the quarter based on a security-by-security reporting system. The reports comprise negotiable bonds and debt securities, negotiable money market paper, shares, participating certificates and investment fund certificates - broken down by economic sector and the customers’ country of origin. Furthermore, the number of customer safe custody accounts are recorded, broken down by economic sector.
Institutions required to report
Domestic banks (monetary financial institutions (MFIs) with the exception of money market funds), domestic investment companies, “other” domestic credit institutions which conduct safe custody business pursuant to section 1 (1), sentence 2, No 5 of the German Banking Act.

Reports are to be submitted to the Bundesbank by close of business on the 15th working day following the end of each quarter.

Securities holdings statistics of January 2013
In Circular 8/2012 of 9 February 2012 concerning the amendment of the order relating to banking statistics reporting requirements for securities investments statistics (formerly referred to as the securities deposit statistics), the Bundesbank announced its intention to revise the securities deposit statistics (new).
As of the reporting date January 2013, data will be collected on a monthly basis. From this date onward, reports are to be submitted by close of business on the 6th working day follow-ing the end of each month.
From September 2012 to December 2012
Test phase for reporting requirements applicable as of the reporting date January 2013.
First reporting date for the monthly collection cycle, changed deadline for submission and implementation of the changes to the European System of Accounts (ESA) 2010 in the area of depositors’ sectors.
From September 2013 to December 2013
Test phase for reporting requirements applicable as of the reporting date January 2014.
First reporting date for collecting book values and labelling securities that are to be attributed to the trading portfolio (for banks’ own holdings only).
