Michael Riedel – Geldmacher

An exhibition at the Deutsche Bundesbank's Money Museum.

20.11.2017 - 25.02.2018
Money Museum of the Deutsche Bundesbank
Wilhelm-Epstein-Strasse  14
60431 Frankfurt am Main

The point of departure for Michael Riedel’s exhibition "Geldmacher" (Money maker) at the Bundesbank's Money Museum is the system behind cash. Display cases contain bundles of banknotes printed on original banknote paper. However, this art(ificial) money is black and white: varying from the norm, it follows its own logic. Based on an exchange of emails between Michael Riedel and his art gallery, this work alludes to the relationship between art and money. Also on display is a series of prints based on a program code used in cash logistics. Comprising 77 individual sheets, this series creates aesthetic structures which visualise digitally controlled, and therefore unseen, processes.
