Tasks and organisation
The Deutsche Bundesbank is the central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Eurosystem monetary policy is the Bundesbank’s core business area. Other core business areas include the financial and monetary system, banking supervision, cashless payments and cash operations.
Two aspects common to all core business areas are active participation in international organisations and research. In addition to these core business areas, the Bundesbank is also responsible for the management of the reserve assets and various tasks in the field of statistics and as the Government’s fiscal agent. It also advises the Federal Government on matters of monetary policy.
The Bundesbank’s Central Office is in Frankfurt am Main. The Bundesbank also has a nationwide network of 9 Regional Offices and 47 branches.
The Executive Board is the Bundesbank’s supreme decision-making body. It comprises the President and Vice-President of the Deutsche Bundesbank and five other members. The President of the Bundesbank is a voting member of the Governing Council of the ECB and takes part in the monthly monetary policy decision-making process.
