The annually published Statistics of bank offices have documented developments in the banking sector in Germany since 1953. They record changes concerning domestic credit institutions and their branches pursuant to sections 32 and 24 of the Banking Act read in conjunction with section 15 of the Reports Regulation. The Statistics of bank offices also list the branches of enterprises domiciled abroad (section 53 of the Banking Act) and branches of institutions domiciled in another state of the European Economic Area (section 53b of the Banking Act). The Statistics of bank offices thus provide a numerical picture of the overall structure of the banking sector in Germany and may serve as a source of information for analytical purposes.
In addition to the publication of the Statistics of bank offices, a report is published once a year on developments in the network of bank offices in Germany during the previous year.
