Press release
Frankfurt am Main
22 February 2006
As a precautionary measure against possible cash supply shortages, the branches of the Bundesbank will be staying open longer to meet local requirements. If necessary, they will stay open until 8.30 pm. ( Normal opening hours – with some regional variations – are from 7.00 am until 5.30 pm.)
This facility was used to varying degrees on 21 February. About one-third of all branches stayed open after 5.30 pm. The Hamburg branch was open longest, ie until 8.30 pm.
Immediately after it had become known that the cash-in-transit company Heros was in difficulty, the Bundesbank announced that a flexible approach to the opening hours of its branches would be adopted.
