Statement by Professor Axel A Weber on the coordinated reduction in interest rates on 8 October 2008

Resolute action was essential in view of the recent heightened turbulence in the financial markets. The central banks have thereby sent a clear signal that they will do everything to prevent a further escalation of the financial crisis. Prudent and responsible conduct on the part of all market participants is now called for.
