Benedikt Fehr to head Bundesbank’s Communications Department from 1 July

Dr Benedikt Fehr will become Head of the Communications Department of the Deutsche Bundesbank from 1 July 2009. He succeeds Dr Christian Burckhardt, who died tragically in December last year.

Dr Fehr, who is 56 years old, gained his doctorate in economics. He is currently business editor at the national daily newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), writing about the European Central Bank, the Bundesbank, and the financial markets. From 1989 to 1999, he was the newspaper’s New York correspondent, reporting on the US financial markets and corporate sector. Dr Fehr was awarded the 2006 media prize of the Initiative Finanzstandort Deutschland (IFD).

In his new capacity, Dr Fehr will report to Professor Axel A Weber, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank.
