External auditing/reporting queries

Pursuant to section 44 of the Foreign Trade and Payments Act (Außenwirtschaftsgesetz) the Bundesbank may request information for the purpose of monitoring compliance with this Act and with the regulations and orders issued in connection with this Act as well as by virtue of legislation introduced by the Council or the Commission of the European Communities under foreign trade and payments law.

To this end it may also perform audits. These audits involve monitoring compliance with the relevant reporting regulations and special restrictions applying to capital movements and payments (financial sanctions).

Four external auditing service centres were established at the Bundesbank for the purpose of performing the audits and dealing with general enquiries concerning the external reporting system.
