Are you looking for a practical, yet academic training programme in Applied Informatics? In cooperation with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Mosbach, the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt am Main offers high-achieving school-leavers with the equivalent of A-levels a challenging three-year dual training programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Informatics. After successfully passing your examinations, you can expect to take on responsible tasks, mainly in IT systems engineering, as an Upper Intermediate Service employee.
Applicants wishing to enrol for this degree course at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University must have a general or a subject-related certificate of aptitude for higher education (“Hochschulreife”); a vocational baccalaureate diploma unfortunately does not meet the requirements. In addition, they must have strong or very strong numeracy skills, high grades in the natural sciences and a good command of German. Strong English-language skills are an advantage as a large part of the relevant literature is written in English. Applicants must also be able to work both independently and in a team. Furthermore, you should be prepared to work anywhere in Germany as you may be posted to various locations both during and after the training programme.
Before a decision about your recruitment is made, a selection procedure will be conducted to determine whether you have the necessary knowledge and personality for the degree course and subsequent tasks. Students are selected based on a two-stage assessment centre. The first part consists of a mathematics and logic test, an English test and an essay. The second part of the selection procedure comprises a one-on-one interview as well as a group task designed to provide us with a better insight into your personality.
Further details on the selection procedure may be found in our selection principles (german only).
The BA in Applied Informatics degree course starts on 1 October of every year.

Your theoretical training at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Mosbach will focus on planning and developing software systems as well as designing, implementing and administering wired and wireless communication networks. In addition, you will receive a grounding in computer and engineering sciences. Your subjects will include, for example, mathematics, informatics, communication and network technology, software engineering and databases. Subjects such as business administration and project management round off the curriculum.
Practical training takes place mainly in the IT Department of the Bundesbank’s Central Office in Frankfurt am Main as well as the Düsseldorf and Munich Regional Offices, possibly with shorter periods being spent at other Bundesbank locations.
In the first and second practical training periods, you will get to know the Bank, in particular the various areas in which information technology is used, and write a placement report. In the third practical training period, we provide you with an overview of the work of the IT Infrastructure Division and discuss with you possible topics for the project work which is to be undertaken in the next practical training period. In the fourth practical training period, you will carry out a project and become familiar with Central IT Operations. In the fifth practical training period, you will, under supervision, complete your own engineering assignment in the field of information technology, before writing a Bachelor’s thesis in the sixth practical training period.
During the dual training programme at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Mosbach and the Deutsche Bundesbank, you will be put through a range of assessments (project work, a Bachelor’s thesis, oral exam). After successfully passing these examinations, you will be awarded the academic qualification of Bachelor of Science in Applied Informatics.
The next intake is 1 October 2013. Planned vacancies are advertised in the major German daily press and on our Job opportunities web page (in the summer of the year before the respective training programme is due to start). Please apply online. A link to the application form is included in the relevant job description. Online applications should be accompanied by the usual documents as file attachments (cover letter, copies of your last two school reports and, if applicable, copies of job references or training certificates and confirmation of having completed military/community service).
