The Deutsche Bundesbank offers young people interested in further
education a taste of the world of central banking and a first glimpse of daily
working life at the Bundesbank through its work placements. In addition, university
students may also deal with a subject relevant to the Bundesbank as a part
of their thesis or dissertation. For specific details, go to

The Bundesbank offers unpaid work placements to students in secondary school at our Central Office in Frankfurt am
Main, our nine Regional Offices as well as at some branches. Should you be interested in doing an apprenticeship at the Bundesbank, you will have the
opportunity to gain your first impression of daily working life during work placements, which last from one to a maximum
of three weeks, helping you to prepare for your future career decisions.

secondary-school students.
Requirements
Applicants for secondary-school work placements at the Bundesbank must either be completing an
obligatory school work placement or at least in 8th grade/year 11 (and at least 15 years
old).
In addition, you should be motivated, open to learning new things, have initiative and be able to adapt flexibly to
varying demands.

Depending on your preferred work placement location, Human Resources at either
Central Office or one of our Regional Offices will accept your application for
a school work placement (Contact ).
In your application, please indicate where and when you would like to complete
the work placement and which areas are of particular interest to you. Your application
should also contain a curriculum vitae in table form and copies of your last
two school reports.

Work placements for university students
Bundesbank work placements for students are primarily based at our Central Office in Frankfurt am Main,
but also at our Regional Offices . Depending on the subject area or project, work placements generally last six to twelve weeks. Longer work placements of up to six months are possible in exceptional cases.
Requirements
The qualifications required for work placements depend to a large extent on the subject area/project in
question. However, we generally expect the following of you:
progression to an advanced stage in your studies (for example, stage II studies or Hauptstudium )
above-average academic performance
knowledge/specialised studies relevant to the duties
involved
Remuneration
The level of remuneration for a work placement depends upon the individual
case in hand. Students with work experience who are doing a master's
degree or are in the final stages of a degree from a German university (Diplom )
generally receive about €950
gross per month. Work experience students in the final stages of their bachelor's
degree or a degree from a polytechnic or a college of higher education receive about €700
gross per month (as at September 2010).
Accommodation
The Bundesbank has several inexpensive guest apartments which, availability permitting, will be at your disposal for
the duration of your work placement.

Theses and dissertations
University students may, with our specialist support, deal with a subject
relevant to the Bundesbank as a part of their thesis or dissertation. You
are welcome to approach us with your own proposal or opt for a topic we have
selected. Please note that you will be responsible
for liaising with your academic supervisor at university. In order to extend
your knowledge of the subject matter and collect relevant data, you will, as
a rule, spend at least several weeks on-site at the Bundesbank. Our extensive specialist
library will aid you in conducting research
in the fields of money, lending and currency (theory, policy and history), banking
and stock exchanges, economic theory and policy, public finance and foreign
trade (theory and policy), international agreements, organisations and individuals
in the monetary and economic sectors, and national and international statistics.

Remuneration
For the duration of your stay at the Bundesbank, you will receive the same remuneration as for a work experience placement. Although remuneration for doctoral students is decided on a case-by case basis, the minimum level is the same as that for work experience students doing a master degree.
