The time schedule for the replacement of the current national credit transfer and direct debit procedures with the new SEPA procedures is expected to be finalised within the next few weeks. The banking industry, infrastructure operators and payment service users will be working intensely on the migration to the SEPA procedures in the time remaining until the changeover. This also applies to the Bundesbank, which will adjust its range of services to meet the needs of the market and regulatory requirements.
In the second half of 2013, bank accounts held at the Bundesbank will be migrated to the TARGET2 single shared platform. These accounts are used primarily for minimum reserve holdings and the settlement of open market operations. The account migration will not have any impact on the scope of services, but there will be changes in the communication interfaces to the credit institutions.
The Bundesbank offers a range of customer-oriented information events with the purpose of informing interested parties about these subjects as well as about other recent developments in the area of cashless payments and the Bundesbank’s own account management system.
