With effect from 7 May 1992, the Latvian rouble (LVR) was introduced as legal tender. The Soviet rouble was converted to Latvian rouble at a rate of 1:1; the Soviet rouble was also legal tender (at this rate) until 19 July 1992. With effect from 28 June 1993, the Latvian lats (LVL) was introduced as new legal tender. The Latvian rouble was converted to Latvian lats at a rate of LVR 200 = LVL 1; until 17 October 1993, the Latvian rouble remained legal tender at this rate.
