The Belarusian rouble, which had already been in circulation alongside the Soviet/Russian rouble since 25 May 1992, has been the sole legal tender since 1 June 1994. A currency conversion took place with effect from 20 August 1994. The former currency, the (old) Belarusian rouble - in circulation in the form of so-called zaichik coupons - was replaced by the (new) Belarusian rouble (BYB) at the rate of 10:1. An additional currency conversion took place with effect from 1 January 2000. The former currency, the (old) Belarusian rouble (BYB) was replaced by the (new) Belarusian rouble (BYR) at the rate of 1,000:1. Exchange rates as of 2000, see BBEX3:A:BYR:USD:CA:AC:A04.
