General In addition to the official exchange rate, which only applied to sugar trading, revenue from bauxite exports, payments for fuel imports, as well as servicing the public sector's external debt, there was a free market rate (cambio market rate) from 2 February 1987 to 30 September 1991; however, we did not have any data on these rates. On 30 September 1991, the official exchange rate and the cambio market rate were harmonised. Listed against the euro as of 1999, see BBEX3:A:GYD:EUR:CA:AC:A04.

Comment on 1991 On 21 February 1991, the Guyana dollar was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 20 February 1991: DEM 1 = GYD 30.23320 / 30.36404 21 February 1991: DEM 1 = GYD 68.36061 / 68.65647 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Guyana dollar depreciated by 55.8%.
Comment on 1990 On 15 June 1990, the Guyana dollar was devalued. We recorded the last exchange rates (buying/selling rate) prior and the first rates after the devaluation as follows: DEM 1 = GYD 19.50289 / 19.59467 DEM 1 = GYD 26.65790 / 26.78334 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Guyana dollar depreciated by 26.8%.
Comment on 1989 On 1 April 1989, the Guyana dollar was devalued. We recorded the last exchange rates (buying/selling rate) prior and the first rates after the devaluation as follows: 31 March 1989: DEM 1 = GYD 5.28127 / 5.30629 3 April 1989: DEM 1 = GYD 17.43557 / 17.51817 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Guyana dollar depreciated by 69.7%.
Comment on 1987 On 19 January 1987, the Guyana dollar was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 16 January 1987: DEM 1 = GYD 2.266 / 2.412 19 January 1987: DEM 1 = GYD 5.175 / 5.496 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Guyana dollar depreciated by 56.2% (on average).
Comment on 1984 On 11 January 1984, the Guyana dollar was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 10 January 1984: DEM 1 = GYD 1.0630 / 1.1239 11 January 1984: DEM 1 = GYD 1.3288 / 1.4048 On the basis of the above-mentioned rates, the Guyana dollar depreciated by 20.0%.
