General With effect from 1 January 1981, the vatu was introduced at a rate of 1 New Hebrides franc (NHF) = 1 vatu (VUV). From 1 January 1981 to 9 September 1981, the vatu was pegged to the French franc at a rate of FRF 1 = VUV 16.1616. Listed against the euro as of January 1999, see BBEX3:M:VUV:EUR:CA:AB:A01.

Comment on 1986-10 With effect from 23 October 1986, the vatu was devalued. We recorded the following exchange rates (buying/selling rate): 22 October 1986: DEM 1 = VUV 49.92 / 51.04 23 October 1986: DEM 1 = VUV 58.16 / 59.48 This corresponds to a depreciation of the vatu against the Deutsche Mark of 14.2%.
