General On 22 November 1993, the Uzbekistan sum was introduced as the country's own currency in the form of coupons; the Russian rouble (RUR) remained also legal tender at par until the end of 1993. With effect from 1 July 1994, the Uzbekistan sum coupons were replaced by the (new) Uzbekistan sum (UZS), at a rate of 1,000 Uzbekistan sum coupons = UZS 1. Listed against the euro as of 1999, see BBEX3:A:UZS:EUR:CA:AC:A04.
Methodology Calculated on the basis of month-end rates. To calculate the annual average for 1994, the exchange rates set in Uzbekistan sum coupons were converted at a rate of 1,000 Uzbekistan sum coupons = UZS 1.
