General Currency conversion with effect from 1 January 2004 at the rate of 1,000 Suriname guilder (SRG) = 1 Suriname dollar (SRD). On 7 June 2021, the Centrale Bank van Suriname abandoned the existing system of managed floating exchange rates established on 1 March 2021 and introduced a flexible exchange rate system.

Comment on 2021-05 With effect from 20 May 2021, the maximum permissible selling rate was adjusted from USD 1 = SRD 16.300 to USD 1 = SRD 21.000.
Comment on 2021-03 With effect from 1 March 2021, selling rates for the Suriname dollar against the US dollar have been anchored within a pre-defined band, to which commercial banks and bureaux de change are required to adhere. The minimum rate is now the current selling rate of USD 1 = SRD 14.290. However, over the course of March, the exchange rates, in fact, trended towards the maximum permissible selling rate of USD 1 = SRD 16.300. In the light of this, we will be reporting the central bank's maximum rates at month-end until further notice. The first of the euro exchange rates (buying/selling) published by the central bank since the arrangement came into force are as follows: 2 March 2021: EUR 1 = SRD 16.896 / SRD 17.224 (minimum rates) EUR 1 = SRD 19.273 / SRD 19.646 (maximum rates).
Comment on 2020-09 With effect from 22 September 2020, the exchange rates (buying/selling) between the Suriname dollar and the US dollar of USD 1 = SRD 7.396 / 7.520 were changed to USD 1 = SRD 14.018 / 14.290; this corresponds to a depreciation of the Suriname dollar vis-à-vis the US dollar of 47.3% (calculated on the basis of the middle rates). For the euro, the most recent exchange rates (buying/selling) before and after the change which were known to us were: 21 September 2020: EUR 1 = SRD 8.752 / 8.899 22 September 2020: EUR 1 = SRD 16.524 / 16.844.
Comment on 2016-05 In May 2016, the de facto peg of the Suriname dollar to the US dollar was abandoned. On the basis of the exchange rates at the end of April 2016 and May 2016, the Suriname dollar experienced a devaluation of 18.2% against the euro.
Comment on 2016-03 With effect from 23 March 2016, the exchange rates (buying/selling) between the Suriname dollar and the US dollar of USD 1 = SRD 3.960 / 4.040 were changed to USD 1 = SRD 5.068 / 5.158; this corresponds to a depreciation of the Suriname dollar vis-à-vis the US dollar of 21.8% (middle rate). For the euro, the most recent exchange rates (buying/selling) before and after the change which were known to us were: 22 March 2016: EUR 1 = SRD 4.463 / 4.553 23 March 2016: EUR 1 = SRD 5.682 / 5.783.
Comment on 2015-11 On 19 November 2015, the exchange rates (buying/selling rate) for the US dollar were changed from USD 1 = SRD 3.250 / 3.350 to USD 1 = SRD 3.960 / 4.040, corresponding to a depreciation of the Suriname dollar against the US dollar of 17.5% (middle rate). We recorded the following exchange rates for the euro (buying/selling): 18 November 2015: EUR 1 = SRD 3.468 / 3.575 19 November 2015: EUR 1 = SRD 4.224 / 4.309.
Comment on 2011-01 On 20 January 2011, the exchange rates (buying/selling rate) for the US dollar were changed from USD 1 = SRD 2.710 / 2.780 to USD 1 = SRD 3.250 / 3.350, corresponding to a depreciation of the Suriname dollar against the US dollar of 16.8% (middle rate). We recorded the following exchange rates for the euro (buying/selling): 19 January 2011: EUR 1 = SRD 3.624 / 3.718 20 January 2011: EUR 1 = SRD 4.389 / 4.525.
