Annual Meeting of the Central Bank GS1 User Group

The meeting was held in the Munich branch of Deutsche Bundesbank.

Representatives of the ECB and 10 national central banks of the EU shared their know-how and their visions of using the GS1 Standards with representatives of their national GS1 Member Organisations.

As one of the main topics the group discussed potential processes for standardisation in central banks' cash business, e.g. for data collection in the course of the Banknote Recycling Framework. The feasibility of using RFID technology in cash centers was yet another informative key point. Furthermore the latest developments in the ECB project Data Exchange for Cash Services (DECS) were presented and discussed. In a presentation on the status quo of the project "GS1 Standards for Cash Handling" GS1 emphasised the increasing integration of GS1 Standards when it comes to cash processes of central banks in the European area.

Furthermore the German IT provider “it kompetenz” gave an impression of the advantages of GS1 Standards from the customer's point of view. The meeting was rounded off by a lively exchange on the status of the national cash IT projects. For more information please contact the User Group's Secretary.
