DESCRIPTION:Objective\n\nMonetary policy decision-making calls for a thor
 ough analysis of economic\, monetary and financial developments. Central
  banks assess these developments using a variety of analytical tools. Th
 e outcome of their analyses provides key input for well-informed monetar
 y policy decisions\, which are essential to the central bank fulfilling 
 its monetary policy mandate. This course provides an overview of various
  analytical tools used by Bundesbank staff in the context of the monetar
 y policy decision-making process within the monetary union. The focus is
  on the analysis of economic\, monetary and financial developments\, whi
 ch represents an important part of the analytical approach adopted by th
 e Eurosystem under the prevailing monetary policy strategy. Bundesbank e
 xperts will present key aspects of their regular analytical work. In par
 ticular\, the course will illustrate specific analytical approaches used
  to monitor and assess developments in the area of money and credit\, in
  capital markets\, in exchange rates and price competitiveness\, as well
  as in relation to the monetary transmission process. While our speciali
 sts will primarily report on practices within the Deutsche Bundesbank\, 
 participants in this course will also be encouraged to actively engage w
 ith each other and\, where appropriate\, prepare presentations in worksh
 ops and exercises to provide insights into the respective frameworks of 
 their own countries.\n\nContents\nMonetary policy transmission and the e
 ffects of financial shocks\nAnalysis of financial accounts\nCapital mark
 ets analysis\nExchange rate and price competitiveness analysis\nRole of 
 banks in monetary policy transmission\nPolicy input using quantitative (
 DSGE) models\nCurrent research projects related to monetary policy analy
 sis\n\nTarget group\n\nMid-level central bank officials working in the a
 rea of monetary analysis and/or financial market analysis. Potential can
 didates who wish to apply for the course should have a sound understandi
 ng of macroeconomic theory and are expected to be familiar with basic ec
 onometrics as well as commonly used modelling techniques.\n\nKnowledge o
 f Matlab is preferred. While our specialists will primarily report on pr
 actices within the Deutsche Bundesbank\, participants of this course wil
 l also be encouraged to actively engage with each other and\, where appr
 opriate\, prepare presentations in workshops and exercises to provide in
 sights into the respective frameworks of their own countries.\n\nPlease 
 note:\n\nThe course does not cover topics related to broader macroeconom
 ic analysis and forecasting. Moreover\, it does not provide an introduct
 ion to econometrics or specific modelling techniques.
