SUMMARY:Automated Functional Testing in Payment and Settlement Systems
TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
UID:2027_10_26_automatet_functional_testing_payment_settlement_1007580
DESCRIPTION:Objective\n\nThe increasing complexity and digitalisation of
payment and securities settlement systems require robust and efficient t
esting strategies to ensure their reliability\, security\, and complianc
 e. Automated functional testing has become a key component in the qualit
y assurance process\, enabling central banks and financial institutions
to detect issues early\, reduce operational risks\, and accelerate innov
ation.\n\nThis course provides participants with a comprehensive introdu
ction to automated functional testing in the context of payment and sett
lement systems. Topics and case studies will be presented from the Bunde
sbank’s perspective\, complemented by participant presentations on natio
nal experiences and solutions. This ensures a balanced exchange of exper
tise and practical insights throughout the course.\n\nParticipants will
gain practical insights into test automation frameworks\, best practices
for adapting test cases for automation (such as ensuring repeatability
and robust data management)\, and the integration of automated testing i
nto the software development life cycle. The course further addresses th
e specific challenges of test automation in regulated payment environmen
ts\, including documentation and auditability requirements\, secure hand
ling of test data\, and risk management aspects related to test operatio
ns.\n\nActive participation in discussions and practical exercises is ex
pected.\n\nContent\nIntroduction to automated functional testing: concep
 ts\, benefits\, and terminology\nCase studies: Automated testing in T2 a
nd T2S from a Bundesbank perspective\nOverview of test automation tools
and frameworks (with practical examples)\nTypical challenges and best pr
actices based on Bundesbank solutions\nAdapting test cases for automatio
 n: repeatability\, data management\, and reporting\nIntegration of autom
ated testing into development and release processes\nDocumentation\, aud
itability\, and compliance requirements in test automation\nRisk managem
ent in test operations\n\nTarget group\n\nThe course is designed for mid
-level and senior central bank employees\, as well as professionals from
payment and settlement system operators. A solid background in payment
and settlement processes is essential. Basic knowledge of software testi
ng or IT project management is beneficial but not mandatory. \n\nPartici
pants are encouraged to actively contribute to discussions and practical
sessions\, including sharing their experiences and challenges in the fi
eld of test automation\, including a short presentation on national expe
riences or solutions to test automation in payment systems.
