SUMMARY:Supervising Sustainable Risks – Climate\, Nature and Green Financ
 e
TRANSP:TRANSPARENT
UID:2027_01_11_supervising_sustainable_risk_1007622
DESCRIPTION:Objective\n\nIn December 2023\, world leaders at COP28\, the
UN’s climate summit in Dubai\, finally reached an agreement: all 198 par
ties at the conference promised to “transition away” from using fossil f
uels\, the main source of greenhouse-gas emissions responsible for globa
l warming\, in their energy systems.\n\nAchieving these goals will requi
re a transformation of the financial system\, its culture and its incent
ives. In this context\, sustainability means making economic prosperity
long-lasting\, socially inclusive and less dependent on the exploitation
of finite resources. The Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for G
reening the Financial System (NGFS) members agreed on an agenda which in
cludes sharing experiences and identifying best practices with regard to
the supervisory and macrofinancial dimensions of climate-related and en
vironmental risks\, as well as options to scale up green financing. This
expert panel follows the NGFS "Sustainability Training Reference Guide"
(STaR Guide) which is published on the Climate Training Alliance (CTA)
Portal.[1]\n\nThis expert panel aims to provide an overview of current s
upervisory activities in the field of sustainable finance. It will discu
ss the possible effects of these developments on the financial system\,
as well as the challenges and opportunities they present. Moreover\, the
panel will offer a platform to discuss what role supervisory authoritie
s and central banks should play\, or – in other words – “How green do su
pervision and regulation need to be?” \n\nContents\nIntroduction to su
pervision in Germany and Europe\nOverview of current micro- and macropru
dential supervisory developments and initiatives\; data analyses and cha
llenges\nGerman implementation of regulatory guidance issued by BCBS and
at EU level\nDiscussion of the effects on financial systems: challenges
and future potential \n\n \n\nTarget group\n\nThe course is aimed at ex
perts in banking supervision or financial stability with a broad knowled
ge of banking supervision and regulation. They should also have a grasp
of current regulatory developments with respect to sustainable and green
finance worldwide and be willing to share their own experiences and nat
ional approaches. Active participation in the form of discussions and a
short presentation on one of these topics is mandatory.\n_ftn_root_1 Th
e STaR Guide aims at providing advice and recommendations to central ban
ks and financial supervisors on how to systematically establish an in-ho
use capacity building programme on climate-related and environmental kno
 wledge.
