DESCRIPTION:Objective\n\nThis course is designed for central bank officia
 ls who are interested in climate\, nature and wider sustainability issue
 s. It covers basic topics on how climate change and nature loss can be s
 ources of economic and financial risks. The programme is geared to be ea
 sily accessible and lays the foundation for more advanced courses such a
 s “Implications of climate change and climate policies for monetary poli
 cy”.\n\nThe course content follows the recommendation of the Network for
  Greening the Financial System’s (NGFS) "Sustainability Training Referen
 ce Guide" (STaR Guide)\, available via the Climate Training Alliance (CT
 A) Portal.\n\nThe STaR Guide provides a structure and recommendations to
  central banks and financial supervisors on how to systematically establ
 ish capacity on climate-related and environmental knowledge. Capacity bu
 ilding is a key enabler to accelerate the upskilling of the NGFS central
  banking and supervisory community and a priority for the NGFS chair\, t
 he Bundesbank’s First Deputy Governor Sabine Mauderer. As already emphas
 ised in the NGFS first 'Progress Report on the Guide for Supervisors' (2
 021)\, a continuous upskilling of knowledge is necessary to account for 
 an evolving understanding of climate‑related and environmental risks and
  to implement robust risk management practices. \n\nContents\nUnderstand
 ing the planetary problems: an introduction to climate change and earth 
 system sciences\nFrom climate change to climate risks: understand the or
 igin and transmission channels of climate risk\nLoss of nature and ecosy
 stem services as an economic and financial risk driver: nature-related r
 isks\nThe perspective for central banks and financial sector supervisory
  authorities: relevance and implications of climate-related and environm
 ental risks\nRelevance and implications (including protection gap) of cl
 imate and environmental risks for (re)insurers\nInternational cooperatio
 n and multilateral agreements on climate change and nature\nThe toolkit 
 against climate change: an overview of available tools and policies rele
 vant for central banks and supervisory authorities. \n\nTarget group\n\n
 Junior to mid-level central bank officials working in the area of moneta
 ry policy\, monetary policy implementation\, financial stability\, banki
 ng supervision\, banking regulation or international relations intereste
 d in the challenges arising from climate\, nature\, and wider sustainabi
 lity issues.\n\nParticipants knowledgeable in the area of climate\, envi
 ronmental or nature-related risks are invited to contribute short presen
 tations based on their own expertise in this field to facilitate an inte
 ractive course.\n\nPlease note:\n\nA nomination is required in order to 
 participate in our in-person courses.
