DESCRIPTION:Objective\n\nMonetary policy decision-making calls for a thor
 ough analysis of economic\, monetary and financial developments. Central
  banks assess these developments using a variety of analytical tools. Th
 e outcome of their analyses provides key input for well-informed monetar
 y policy decisions which are a prerequisite to the central bank fulfilli
 ng its monetary policy mandate. This course provides an overview of vari
 ous analytical tools which Bundesbank staff use in the context of the mo
 netary policy decision-making process in the monetary union. The focus i
 s on the analysis of economic\, monetary and financial developments\, wh
 ich represents an important part of the analytical approach adopted by t
 he Eurosystem under the prevailing monetary policy strategy. \n\nBundesb
 ank experts will present key aspects of their regular analytical work. I
 n particular\, the course will illustrate specific analytical approaches
  used to monitor and assess developments in the area of money and credit
 \, in capital markets\, in exchange rates and price competitiveness\, as
  well as in relation to the monetary transmission process. While our spe
 cialists will primarily report on practices within the Deutsche Bundesba
 nk\, participants of this course will also be encouraged to actively eng
 age with each other and\, where appropriate\, prepare presentations in w
 orkshops and exercises to provide insights into the respective framework
 s of their own countries.\n\nContents\nMonetary policy transmission and 
 the effects of financial shocks\nAnalysis of financial accounts\nCapital
  markets analysis\nExchange rate and price competitiveness analysis\nRol
 e of banks in monetary policy transmission\nPolicy advice with quantitat
 ive (DSGE) models\nCurrent research projects related to monetary policy 
 analysis\n\nTarget group\n\nMid-level central bank officials working in 
 the area of monetary analysis and/or financial market analysis. Potentia
 l candidates who wish to apply for the course should have a sound unders
 tanding of macroeconomic theory and are expected to be familiar with bas
 ic econometrics as well as commonly used modelling techniques. Knowledge
  of Matlab is preferred. \n\nWhile our specialists will primarily report
  on practices within the Deutsche Bundesbank\, participants of this cour
 se will also be encouraged to actively engage with each other and\, wher
 e appropriate\, prepare presentations in workshops and exercises to prov
 ide insights into the respective frameworks of their own countries.\n\nP
 lease note:\n\nThe course does not cover topics related to broader macro
 economic analysis and forecasting. Moreover\, it does not provide an int
 roduction to econometrics or specific modelling techniques. \n\nA nomina
 tion is required in order to participate in our in-person courses.
