 2025\n\nObjective\n\nThis course\, which addresses topics relating to th
 e climate\, nature\, and wider sustainability issues\, is designed for c
 entral bank officials. It contains basic information on how climate chan
 ge and nature loss can be sources of economic and financial risks. The p
 rogramme is engineered to be easily accessible and lays the foundation f
 or more advanced courses such as “Climate Risk and Monetary Policy”.\n\n
 The course content follows the recommendations of the “Sustainability Tr
 aining Reference Guide” (STaR Guide) released by the Network for Greenin
 g the Financial System (NGFS)\, available via the Climate Training Allia
 nce (CTA) Portal.\n\nThe STaR Guide provides a structure and recommendat
 ions for central banks and financial supervisors to systematically estab
 lish a capacity building strategy on the basis of climate-related and en
 vironmental knowledge. Capacity building is key to the acceleration of u
 pskilling in the NGFS central banking and supervisory community\, as wel
 l as a priority of the NGFS Chair\, Bundesbank Executive Board member Sa
 bine Mauderer. As emphasised by the NGFS “Progress Report on the Guide f
 or Supervisors” (2021)\, a continuous upskilling is necessary to account
  for an evolving understanding of climate‑related and environmental risk
 s and to implement robust risk management practices.\n\nContent\nUnderst
 anding the planetary problems: an introduction to climate change and ear
 th system sciences\nFrom climate change to climate risks: understanding 
 the origin and transmission channels of climate risk\nLoss of nature and
  ecosystem services as a driver of economic and financial risk: nature-r
 elated risks\nThe perspective for central banks and financial sector sup
 ervisory authorities: relevance and implications of climate-related and 
 environmental risks\nRelevance and implications (including protection ga
 p) of climate and environmental risks for (re)insurers\nInternational co
 operation and multilateral agreements on climate change and nature\nThe 
 toolkit against climate change: an overview of tools available to and po
 licies relevant for central banks and supervisory authorities\n\nTarget 
 group\n\nJunior to mid-level central bank officials working in the areas
  of monetary policy\, monetary policy implementation\, financial stabili
 ty\, banking supervision\, banking regulation or international relations
  with a focus on challenges arising from climate\, nature\, and wider su
 stainability issues.\n\nParticipants knowledgeable in the area of climat
 e\, environmental or nature-related risks are invited to contribute shor
 t presentations based on their own expertise in this field to facilitate
  an interactive course.
