We are seeking an experienced academic to fill the position of
Head of Research for the Research Centre at our Central Office in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Our Research Centre exists to develop and consolidate academic expertise, chiefly in the fields of monetary policy, financial stability and banking supervision. What the job entails

You will be in charge of an international team of more than 50 researchers, research assistants and support staff working in a dedicated research services office. You will be responsible for the research programme, direct the Research Centre’s input to Bundesbank policy consultations and contributions to research networks as well as coordinating research activities with other areas across the Bundesbank. You will work on your own research projects, publishing the results in leading academic journals, and guide the Research Centre’s staff in their research projects. Based on the results of this research, you will formulate scientifically sound stances and advise the Bundesbank at the highest level. In addition, you will act as a driving force in cultivating links between the Bundesbank and external researchers, assume overall responsibility for organising research seminars and conferences, and represent the Bundesbank on international bodies and at conferences.

What we are looking for

  • Accredited master´s degree or equivalent qualification with above-average results, doctorate
  • A research specialism in at least one of the following core areas: monetary policy, financial stability or banking supervision
  • Outstanding academic achievements, as evidenced by publications in prestigious international journals
  • Experience in collaboration with international academics, organising workshops and conferences and, ideally, in policy consultation
  • Strong leadership skills, an aptitude for negotiation and a confident manner, intercultural competence
  • Experience of working in a central bank setting would be advantageous
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and English is desirable
