Training for the Bundesbank's Intermediate Service

Your training – what does the training entail?

The 21-month long training for the Bank's Intermediate Service can be completed at any of our regional offices.  Depending on the location, training starts on 1 September or 1 March. During the practical part of your training you will become acquainted with the diverse range of tasks carried out at our regional offices, the corresponding branches and the Central Office. The theoretical part of your training comprises various seminars on the topics of cash processing, banking operations, law and civics as well as accounting among others.

Your training conditions – what will I earn?

If you pursue a civil servant career in the Bundesbank's Intermediate Service, your pay will be in line with the Federal Civil Service Remuneration Act (Bundesbesoldungsgesetz) and will amount to approximately €1,130 net per month throughout the training period. Persons who are married or have children will receive a family allowance.

Your prospects – what awaits me on completion of my training?

Once you have passed the career development examination, you will be eligible to work in the Bundesbank's Intermediate Service. You will take on responsible tasks in the area of cash processing at our branches. You will be working in teams, operating state-of-the-art machines that detect counterfeit money and process banknotes and coins. By so doing, you will be providing services for the entire economy.

Once you have passed the career development examination, you will initially be accepted into the civil service on probation and subsequently into the permanent civil service, provided that the relevant conditions are fulfilled. From then onwards, your monthly net salary will be approximately €1,950. Persons who are married or have children will receive a family allowance.

Our requirements profile – what qualifications/skills do I need?

We expect the following form our future trainees.

  • A school-leaving certificate from a lower secondary school (Hauptschulabschluss) and relevant vocational training for this programme or a school-leaving certificate from an intermediate secondary school (Realschulabschluss)
  • You fulfil the prerequisites stipulated in section 7 of the Federal Civil Servants Act.
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of, and colour vision necessary for, money processing
  • A good command of German and good numeracy skills
  • An interest in practical work and in economics

Your application and the selection procedure – how does it work?

The dates to start your training in the Bundesbank's Intermediate Service are scheduled for 1 September or 1 March. This vacancy will be advertised on our job opportunities page from December onwards. There you will also find a link to our online application form. Please attach the following documents.

  • Covering letter
  • Copies of your last two school reports
  • Copies of job references or training certificates (if applicable)
  • Certification of having completed military or community service (if applicable)

If for technical reasons you cannot apply online, you may send your application and CV in table form to the appropriate office closest to your place of residence.

The applications will be reviewed once the application deadline has passed. If your application is successful, you will be invited to our selection procedure in order for us to get to know you better. The selection procedure is comprised of two parts.

Part 1

Written test: assessment to determine your intellectual abilities (etc).

Part 2

Group discussion, Written assignment, Structured interview
