Breakdown by type of product (aggregates mainly used by the ECB)
This table shows the annual consumer price inflation rate, i.e. the percentage change in consumer prices from the same period of the previous year, as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the euro area and the euro area countries. The breakdown corresponds to the European Classification of Individual Consumption according to Purpose (ECOICOP) adapted to the needs of the HICP. For more information on this classification please refer to the Eurostat HICP website (see “External links”).
The breakdown shown is the one mainly used by the ECB. The aggregates, which are compiled by Eurostat and provide an alternative presentation of HICP data, are useful for economic analysis.
