Coin Dispensing Machines (§ 36 BBankG)

Coin Dispensing Machines (§ 36 BBankG)

Pursuant to section 36 of the Bundesbank Act (Bundesbankgesetz), all institutions engaged in the sorting and distribution of cash are obliged to withdraw from circulation all banknotes and coins received by them which they know or have sufficient reason to believe to be counterfeit, and to hand them over to the competent national authorities.

In accordance with Article 6 (1) of Regulation (EC) No 1338/2001, this means that a coin dispensing machine must be able to detect and withhold suspected counterfeit banknotes, as well as those that are unable to be clearly authenticated, and not return them to the depositor.

The “List of successfully tested coin dispensing machines” contains the coin dispensing machines that have been successfully tested by the Deutsche Bundesbank pursuant to the Eurosystem’s harmonised testing procedure. At the time the checks were performed, all known counterfeit banknotes were reliably detected by the coin dispensing machine and retained as per requirements.

The certificate of approval is valid for 12 calendar months, plus up to the end of the month in which the test was carried out.
