Im 1. Halbjahr 2011 hat die Bundesbank 18.852 falsche Euro-Banknoten im Zahlungsverkehr registriert. Die Zahl der Fälschungen ist damit gegenüber dem 2. Halbjahr 2010 (26.298) um 28 Prozent gefallen. Der durch falsche Banknoten verursachte Schaden lag bei knapp 1,1 Millionen Euro.

Die Deutsche Bundesbank hat im Jahr 2016 rund 82.200 falsche Euro‑Banknoten im Nennwert von 4,2 Millionen Euro registriert - 14 Prozent weniger als im Vorjahr. Insbesondere die Zahl der 20‑Euro‑Fälschungen ist nach Einführung der neuen 20‑Euro-Noten der Europa-Serie deutlich zurückgegangen.

The Bundesbank has been directly confronted with the fallout from the devastating floods that hit North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate in mid-July. It is analysing and replacing soaked and damaged banknotes in a process allowing affected inhabitants to be reimbursed with the value of their damaged cash. Bundesbank Executive Board member Johannes Beermann visited the National Analysis Centre for Counterfeit and Damaged Banknotes and Coins in Mainz for an update on the progress made so far.

New coated €20 banknotes to be brought into circulation from 2021 onwards

According to a statement made to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) news agency by the Executive Board member responsible for Cash, Johannes Beermann, over the course of 2021 the Bundesbank will begin issuing new €20 banknotes with a special coating that is designed to extend the lifespan of the banknotes.
