Multilateral development banks (MDBs)
As the IMF's sister organisation, the World Bank Group - like the regional multilateral development banks - aims to promote economic development in its less-developed member countries by providing financial and technical assistance and sharing knowledge. Developing such countries' financial sectors is an important aspect. As the importance of developing countries and emerging market economies on the international financial markets is increasing and thereby their significance for global financial and monetary stability, the Bundesbank is involved in this set of issues and, on request, advises both the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, which is responsible for Germany's membership, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. Moreover, Germany's payments to development banks are settled via the Bundesbank.
