Declaration on Accessibility
Scope and legal basis
This accessibility statement applies to the Deutsche Bundesbank’s website at www.bundesbank.de. Unless otherwise indicated, it covers all the web pages and downloadable content published there.
The legal requirements concerning accessibility are based on the following:
EU Directive (EU) 2016/2102, the German Act on Equal Opportunities for Disabled Persons (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz – BGG), the German Barrier-free Information Technology Regulation (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung – BITV 2.0) as well as the EN 301 549 standard in conjunction with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) Levels A and AA.
Accessibility status
The Bundesbank’s website is not fully accessible at present and does not yet satisfy the requirements of WCAG 2.1 Levels A and AA. An external test has identified barriers in various areas, including the following:
- operability through a keyboard interface;
- focus order;
- text alternatives for images and graphics;
- content structure and semantics;
- contrast ratio and accessibility of templates.
Barriers identified and measures
The following barriers were identified. We are working to resolve them over time.
- Text alternatives: in some cases, text alternatives are missing or lack meaning. Planned measure: add or update text alternatives and provide supplementary descriptions for complex graphics.
- Operability through a keyboard interface and focus order: some functions are not fully operable through a keyboard interface and focus is not always clearly visible. Technical revisions are planned.
- Contrast ratio: some texts and control elements have an insufficient contrast ratio. Technical revisions are planned.
- Templates: labels and groupings are not consistent or missing.
- Semantics and structure: headings, lists and other structural elements are not always tagged correctly. Technical revisions are planned.
- The language of (some) foreign language words or passages in older documents is not tagged. This content is being edited over time. We endeavour to make newly posted content accessible.
- (Some) videos do not come with captions. We endeavour to add captions to newly posted videos as soon as possible after release.
- At present, numerous PDF files, some of which are older, are available for download, and not all of these are accessible. We endeavour to make newly posted PDF files accessible.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared on 9 December 2025 and is based on an external test in November 2025.
