Three Economists (m/f/d) for our Research Centre
The Bundesbank’s Research Centre pools academic expertise and supports the Bank through high-quality research and research-based policy advice in the areas of monetary policy, financial stability and banking supervision.
We are looking for dedicated economists to join our team. Two positions are available as part of a tenure track procedure. In addition, we are offering a part-time job (70 %) on a temporary basis until 31 December 2027.

- You will conduct academic research related to the future of finance, covering the following main areas:
- The impact of AI and digital innovation on financial markets, banks and other financial intermediaries, monetary policy, and banking supervision and regulation
- The impact of digital payment systems (CBDCs and stablecoins) on financial stability, banks’ liquidity management and central banks’ role as lenders of last resort
- The importance of non-bank financial intermediaries for the efficiency and stability of the financial system and the transmission of monetary policy
- The influence of geopolitical fragmentation and geopolitical risks on the behaviour of financial intermediaries, the efficiency of (financial) markets, capital flows and regulation
- The impact of demographic change on the financial markets
- Your research papers will be published in leading academic journals and contribute to decision-making within the Bundesbank.
- By conducting research and participating in conferences, you will represent the Bundesbank publicly and foster the exchange of ideas with academics and external policymakers.
Unique assets: Ihre skills and qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in economics with above-average results (overall grade 2.49 or better)
- Experience in independent research work in the areas relating to the future of finance topics mentioned above, supported by a PhD or PhD nearing completion in economics or publications in leading academic journals or research papers that have the potential to be published in such journals
- Very good knowledge of at least one of the following subjects: Financial economics, microeconomics, monetary economy, international economy and labour economics
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and intercultural skills
- Very good command of English; a grounding in German would be an advantage
