Housing prices continued to rise in 2017. Price exaggerations in German towns and cities were between 15% and 30% and in the big cities they were as high as 35%, according to the latest Bundesbank Monthly Report.

Die Bundesregierung hat beschlossen, eine neue Sammlermünze im Wert von fünf Euro prägen zu lassen und im ersten Halbjahr 2016 auszugeben. Das besondere: Die Münze mit dem Titel "Planet Erde" enthält in der Mitte einen blauen Polymerring als Sicherheitselement. Sie ist auch als Zahlungsmittel in Deutschland gültig.

Beim nationalen Entscheid des Schülerwettbewerbs "Generation Euro" in der Zentrale der Bundesbank hat ein Team aus Baden-Württemberg gewonnen. Die Finalisten mussten eine Empfehlung für eine Zinsentscheidung der Europäischen Zentralbank geben und begründen.

Speaking at an event to mark the Bundesbank's 60th anniversary, Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann underscored the institution's importance for the stability culture in Germany and Europe. "Over the last 60 years, the Bundesbank has not been afraid to ruffle a few feathers if it sees stability risks," he said in Stuttgart. That had not damaged its reputation among the general public.

The Bundesbank opens its extensively redesigned Money Museum on 17 December 2016. Following elaborate construction and modernisation work, the museum presents itself to the public as an interactive learning venue.

Whether supplying cash to the economy, being actively involved in banking supervision or giving talks to the general public under the rubric of economic education, the Bundesbank is on hand as a service provider, supervisor and information provider at approximately 40 locations throughout Germany.
