With its electronic access for credit institutions, which is based on the Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard (EBICS), the Deutsche Bundesbank offers a communication channel based on accepted protocols and standards which is capable of processing the growing data volumes in the data exchange between payment service providers with bank sort code efficiently, securely and cost-effectively.

The digital euro is intended to complement cash and strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy in payments, the Bundesbank writes in its latest Monthly Report. Both online and offline payments would be possible with the digital euro. It would introduce the benefits of cash to the digital world without replacing cash.
