Bargeldverwendung in Deutschland Eine empirische Analyse zu Ausmaß und Motiven der Aufbewahrung von Bargeld in deutschen Haushalten
Schätzungen der Deutschen Bundesbank zufolge befanden sich im Jahr 2018 ca. 268 Mrd. € Banknoten in Deutschland im Umlauf. Davon wurden ca. 20% direkt für Transaktionen verwendet. Der weitaus größere Teil – etwa 200 Mrd. € – wird der sogenannten Hortung zugeschrieben, also der längerfristigen Aufbewahrung von Bargeld durch Haushalte und Unternehmen.
