Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz has spoken out in favour of a future that includes cash: Let us work together to ensure that cash keeps its time-tested place in an increasingly digitalised world, he said in his speech at the Bundesbank’s cash symposium in Berlin. In order to guarantee freedom of choice in payments, access to and acceptance of cash must be maintained, said Mr Balz.

Bundesbankvorstand Burkhard Balz ist bei einer Rede in Oldenburg auf aktuelle Herausforderungen im Zahlungsverkehr eingegangen. Der Zahlungsverkehr ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür, dass wir mehr Zusammenarbeit und vor allem auch mehr Europa brauchen und nicht weniger, sagte er. Der digitale Euro und die Verbesserung des grenzüberschreitenden Zahlungsverkehrs seien zwei der Themen, an denen das Eurosystem arbeite.

Der gewichtete Indikator der Kreditfinanzierungskosten für neue Kredite an Unternehmen sank um 16 Basispunkte auf 4,36 % und der entsprechende Indikator für neue Wohnungsbaukredite an private Haushalte um 8 Basispunkte auf 3,39 %.

Am 19. Dezember 2024 verabschiedete der EZB-Rat eine Neuregelung für die Übersetzung der im Wirtschaftsbericht enthaltenen Kästen in die Sprachen des Euroraums. Es ist den zuständigen nationalen Zentralbanken fortan selbst überlassen, ob sie die Kästen übersetzen oder nicht.
