The economist Peter Bofinger, Senior Professor of Economics, Money and International Economic Relations at the University of Würzburg, gave a lecture on the topic of ‘The digital euro: The money of the future’. The subsequent discussion with Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel was moderated by Falko Fecht, Head of Research, Deutsche Bundesbank.

Beatrice Weder di Mauro gave a speech entitled “Still Too Big to Fail? Lessons from the Failure of Credit Suisse”. This was followed by a panel discussion with Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel and Karlheinz Walch, Director General Banking and Financial Supervision at the Bundesbank.

What consequences does the remuneration of central bank reserves have for the profits of commercial banks and central banks? Economist Paul De Grauwe from the London School of Economics addressed this topic as part of a talk given at the Bundesbank. The subsequent panel discussion with De Grauwe and his co-author, Yuemei Ji, from University College London, as well as Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel and Karsten Stroborn, Director General Markets at the Bundesbank, sparked a controversial exchange of views on how a central bank should deal with these consequences.

Upon invitation by the Research Centre, Benjamin M. Friedman, Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, held a lecture entitled “Central banks’ battle against inflation: Implications for monetary policy”. It was followed by a panel discussion, hosted by Falko Fecht (Head of Research, Deutsche Bundesbank).
