The Deutsche Bundesbank calculates the basic rate of interest in pursuant to statutory requirements and publishes its current level in the Federal Gazette. 

From 1990 to 1998, Otmar Issing was the Bundesbank’s chief economist. As chief economist at the European Central Bank (ECB), he was responsible for crafting the ECB Governing Council’s monetary policy strategy. Speaking at an academic colloquium to mark Mr Issing’s 85th birthday, Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann said that Mr Issing had shaped the landscape of monetary policy in Europe like few others.

In our everyday lives, we are regularly confronted with terms that carry "interest" in their names. But what exactly are interest rates and what influence do they have? We want to get to the bottom of the most important interest terms and economic interrelationships in this explanatory film.

Beim Auftakt der Veranstaltungsreihe „Ökologische Ordnungspolitik gestalten“ diskutierten Expertinnen und Experten aus Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft über die Rolle des Staates und privater Unternehmen in der ökologischen Transformation. Bundesbankvorstandsmitglied Sabine Mauderer eröffnete die Veranstaltung. Die Bundesbank organisiert die Veranstaltung gemeinsam mit dem Zentrum Liberale Moderne und dem Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung.
