Deutsche Bundesbank together with Deutsche Börse Group and Germany’s Finance Agency have developed and successfully tested a settlement interface for electronic securities. Securities settlement using distributed ledger technology (DLT) is performed with the aid of a trigger solution in TARGET2.

Bundesbank Executive Board member Burkhard Balz has announced that new generations of crypto-tokens will warrant closer scrutiny: Their technical stability needs to be evaluated, as must their impact on monetary and financial stability, he said during a speech in Brussels. Currently, crypto-tokens do not pose a risk to monetary or financial stability, he noted.

Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann has acknowledged the role of Sveriges Riksbank, the Swedish central bank, as an important innovator in central bank history.
