The March 2014 edition of the Monthly Report describes the shadow banking system in the euro area and its monetary policy implications. In addition, the German balance of payments in 2013 is reconsidered and it comments on the vulnerability to crises of the manufacturing enterprises in Germany.

The Bundesbank posted a profit of € 2.5 billion for the 2018 financial year, representing a year-on-year increase of € 0.5 billion. This increase was due to higher interest income, noted Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann.

The Bundesbank study on payment behaviour in Germany, which was published in 2009, showed that cash continues to be an extremely popular method of payment and that no significant changes in payment behaviour in Germany are expected in the short to medium term. There are essentially two ways of withdrawing that most important of payment instruments "cash" – namely from bank counters or from ATMs. This paper analyses the withdrawal behaviour of Germans based on place, amount and frequencies of withdrawal.

The June 2019 edition of the Bundesbank’s Monthly Report outlines the prospects for the German economy on the basis of projections for 2019 and 2020 and looks ahead at the year 2021. It also covers the overhaul of European banking regulation and features an analysis of the costs associated with different means of payment in the retail sector. Lastly, the changing face of payments services is explored, with reference to instant payments, PSD2 and new competitors.

The August 2017 Monthly Report comments on the economic situation in Germany in summer 2017.

The December 2015 Monthly Report focuses on the outlook for the German economy based on macroeconomic projections for 2016 and 2017. It also contains an analysis of German enterprises’ profitability and financing conditions in 2014 as well as an article on deposit protection in Germany.
