The Deutsche Bundesbank has published its first climate-related report. This publication outlines how the Bundesbank incorporates climate-related risks into individual areas of activity within its mandate.

In the first half of 2022, around 19,800 counterfeit euro banknotes with a nominal value of just under €1 million were withdrawn from circulation in Germany. The number of counterfeits fell by 3.9% compared with the second half of 2021. This equates to five counterfeit banknotes per 10,000 inhabitants.

Der EZB-Rat hat die Leitzinsen im Euroraum um einen halben Prozentpunkt erhöht und damit die Zeit der Negativzinsen beendet. Der Zinssatz für Hauptrefinanzierungsgeschäfte liegt damit bei 0,50 Prozent, der Einlagensatz steigt auf 0 Prozent. Darüber hinaus beschloss der EZB-Rat in seiner Sitzung die Einführung eines neuen Krisenprogramms, das sogenannte Transmission Protection Instrument (TPI). "Das TPI wird das Instrumentarium des EZB-Rats ergänzen und kann aktiviert werden, um ungerechtfertigten, ungeordneten Marktdynamiken entgegenzuwirken, die eine ernsthafte Bedrohung für die Transmission der Geldpolitik im Euroraum darstellen", heißt es in einer Pressemitteilung der Notenbank.

Ein Comprehensive Assessment wurde durchgeführt, nachdem Banken als bedeutend eingestuft worden waren. Jede Bank wurde einer Prüfung der Aktiva-Qualität und einem Stresstest unterzogen. Nach Anpassungen wurden keine Kapitallücken festgestellt.

Am 6. Juli 2022 ernannte der EZB-Rat Doris Schneeberger (Direktorin Banknoten der EZB) zur Vorsitzenden des Banknotenausschusses (BANCO), Eva Murciano (Generaldirektorin Personal der EZB) zur Vorsitzenden der Personalleiterkonferenz (HRC) und Oscar Arce (Generaldirektor Volkswirtschaft der EZB) zum Vorsitzenden des Geldpolitischen Ausschusses (MPC).

In its Monthly Report, the Bundesbank writes that the German economy is likely to have pretty much stagnated in the second quarter of 2022. Although the elimination of most coronavirus mitigation measures lent a strong boost to service providers, which had previously been constrained, the high inflation was a drag on households’ purchasing power and consumer sentiment deteriorated sharply. The report adds that supply bottlenecks and high uncertainty about future economic developments also weighed on industry.

In the second year of the pandemic, the number of card transactions reported by payment service providers in Germany rose again significantly compared with the previous year, increasing by 10% to more than 8 billion payments.
