Two experts on blockchain, DLT & the digital euro (m/w/d)
Join our Wholesale CBDC team in the Directorate General Digital Euro and work on digital financial market infrastructures – an area that will help shape the future of finance. We focus on analysing, evaluating and testing new technologies in the digital euro environment, as well as distributed ledger technology, smart contracts, tokenisation and programmable financial market processes. Actively shape the financial market infrastructure of the future and use your expertise to help develop the digital euro and innovative DLT-based solutions.
Valuable work: your role with us
- You will analyse and evaluate technological developments and market trends in the areas of blockchain, DLT, smart contracts, tokenisation, CBDC and artificial intelligence.
- You will design and test technical solutions, proofs of concept and integration concepts for digital financial market infrastructures and programmable settlement solutions.
- You will develop APIs and interfaces between DLT systems and existing financial infrastructures for exploration projects.
- You will use analyses of technology and market developments to provide recommendations and decision-making input on strategic issues.
- Together with research and development partners, you will turn research findings into innovative and practical use cases.
- You will communicate complex technical information clearly to different audiences. You will also prepare reports, expert opinions, decision papers and presentations.
- You will network with national and international stakeholders from academia, finance and technology and contribute your expertise to relevant forums and working groups.
Unique assets: your skills and qualifications
- Master’s degree or comparable qualification in business informatics/information technology or a degree programme with a focus on information technology
- Very good command of German
- Very good command of English
In addition, we would welcome:
- Very strong knowledge of software development (fullstack, backend or blockchain), ideally supported by some initial practical experience
- Strong knowledge of European payment infrastructures (e.g. TARGET services, payment settlement)
- Strong knowledge of blockchain/distributed ledger technology, smart contract development and tokenised assets
- Very strong knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript
- Very strong knowledge of project-based work, especially using agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban, ideally supported by practical experience in previous projects
- Knowledge of AI technologies in a financial context
- Very strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Professional flexibility
- Intercultural skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Very strong communication skills in German and English

Remuneration and prospects
Remuneration that corresponds to pay grade E 13 of the wage agreement for the public sector (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD) (approximately €65,900 to €95,100, depending on your level of experience), supplementary old-age provision, permanent contract, international working environment, opportunity to gain civil servant status or maintain existing civil servant status (up to A 15)

Extensive options to work from home within Germany (generally up to 60 % of total working hours), 39-hour working week, 30 days of annual leave, flexible working hours with overtime compensated by time off
