Changeover of the job portal

The Deutsche Bundesbank switched to a new job portal. For a transitional period, job advertisements can therefore be found on both portals. Depending on the position you wish to apply for, different application channels also apply. The following FAQ shows the differences.

If possible, please apply online. You can follow the link in the relevant job advertisement.

You can apply directly online via our job portal. Search for suitable job offers, create an applicant profile and upload your documents. Alternatively, you can log in to the job portal via the social media channels LinkedIn or Xing. In addition, you can apply directly without registering and we will automatically create an account for you as a service once the application has been submitted.

How do I know if my application has been successfully received?

After submitting your application, you will receive an automatic confirmation by email. In the new job portal, you can also view the status of your application at any time under “My career”.
Can I apply for multiple job vacancies?

Yes, it is possible to apply for more than one job vacancy. In the new job portal, you can use your personal applicant account for each application.
What documents are required?

Please always attach a cover letter, your CV and all relevant certificates (including a transcript of grades). Detailed information on the required certificates can be found in the respective job advertisement.
The job advertisement requires a university degree. However, I have not yet completed my studies. What documents do you need?

Please provide us with an up-to-date overview of your grades so that we can get an idea of your achievements so far. The submission of an enrolment certificate is not sufficient. The required degree must have been obtained no later than the day of recruitment. Otherwise, it will not be possible to hire you for the job.
What do I need to know about foreign educational qualifications?
If you have educational qualifications attained abroad, we ask you to provide appropriate evidence of equivalence with a German degree. More information can be found on the website of the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).

To whom should the application letter be addressed?

As your application goes via several different units at the Bundesbank, you are welcome to use a general form of address. The formal address “Dear Sir or Madam” is therefore perfectly sufficient.
Are postal applications possible?

Are unsolicited applications possible?
Due to legal provisions, we are required by law to advertise all job vacancies that are open to external applicants. We cannot therefore consider unsolicited applications. Does the Deutsche Bundesbank review application documents personally, or is artificial intelligence (AI) used for this process?

The Deutsche Bundesbank continues to review application documents personally. Personal contact and the individual assessment of each application are particularly important to us.
What is the application process after sending my application?

We will review all incoming applications by the closing date specified in the job advertisement. If documents are missing, we will contact you immediately and ask you to provide the missing documents. After reviewing all documents, you will receive feedback on the status of your application. We invite the most suitable persons on the basis of the submitted documents to a selection procedure. This selection procedure can be carried out either on-site or online. Depending on the position, the selection procedure may include other tasks in addition to the structured interview, such as a written preparation or a presentation. Does the Bundesbank offer opportunities for lateral entry?

Can I access my application profile and manage applications?

Old job offers:
To apply for another position, please create a new profile. You can use the same email address that you used for previous applications. In order to submit up-to-date documents, please send an email to jobs@bundesbank.de, stating the title of the job advertisement and the job ID.
New job portal:
Yes, you can manage your applications, add documents and view the status in the “My career” section.
Can I interrupt the application process and continue later?

Yes, you can temporarily save your application and continue at a later date. Your application will only be visible to us once it has been submitted.
How can I delete my personal data?

You can delete your profile and data from the job portal at any time. Automatic deletion shall take place no later than six months after the selection procedure has been completed. For more information, please also refer to the Privacy Notice.

Please note that the size of individual documents must not exceed 3 MB and the total volume of all uploaded application documents must not exceed 20 MB. To ensure that your application is transmitted smoothly, please note the following:
Mainly use PDF files or image files (along with PDF also JPG, GIF or PNG)
Use common PDF compression tools as needed to reduce file size without any loss of quality
Capture multiple documents (Such as certificates or certificates) in a file and use as unique a file name as possible (e.g. first name_surname_certificates)

Due to complex scheduling, it is not possible to avoid having some gaps of unused time during the selection day. In addition to staff from the Human Resources department, trainees and trainee civil servants will therefore also attend the selection day and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

How does the selection procedure for the dual degree programmes work?
We invite the most suitable candidates based on the application documents to a multi-stage selection procedure.

How does the selection procedure work for the trainee programme (master’s programme)?
We invite the most suitable applicants on the basis of the application documents to a multi-stage selection procedure.

In addition to staff from the Human Resources department, current trainees will therefore also attend the selection day and will be happy to answer your questions about the trainee programme and the Bundesbank.
How does the selection procedure work for direct entry and the trainee programme (bachelor’s)?

We invite the most suitable applicants based on the application documents to an interview. Where appropriate, we will also ask you to convince us of your English skills, to give a brief presentation and/or to complete a written assignment.
After the selection procedure for vocational training for specific occupations, the dual study programmes and the trainee programme (master’s programme), what is the next step?

On the selection day, we already offer all applicants the opportunity to receive oral feedback. As a general rule, you will receive a reply from us within two weeks of completing the overall procedure. However, due to legal provisions, written commitments or cancellations may only be made after the participation of our staff representatives. Irrespective of this, we are always available to provide you with telephone information on the status of your application.
As part of our recruitment process, we will collect various information about you. Once all the necessary information has been provided, we will send successful applicants for the office management assistant training programme, our cooperation programmes and the trainee programme (master’s programme) a contract of employment. Successful applicants for training in the Bank’s Intermediate Service and the “Central Banking” programme will receive a certificate of appointment instead of an employment contract on account of their entry into the civil service.
Can I apply for more than one dual degree programme in parallel?

Yes. In this case, the selection procedure only needs to be completed once.
How are travel expenses reimbursed?

Old job offers:
On the day of the (in-person) selection procedure, you will receive an application for reimbursement of travel and, if applicable, accommodation costs. Reimbursement is based on Federal travel costs legislation.
New job portal:
The application for reimbursement of travel and, if applicable Following the (in-person) selection procedure, we will provide you with accommodation costs digitally via the job portal. You can download, complete and sign the application directly in your personal area. If necessary, please add the relevant documents as an annexe. Then upload the completed application back to the job portal. Processing and reimbursement shall be based on Federal travel costs legislation.
