Bundesbank President Nagel to receive the Foreign Policy Association Medal
Bundesbank President Dr Joachim Nagel is set to receive the prestigious Foreign Policy Association (FPA) Medal in recognition of his commitment to responsible internationalism. The FPA referred to Dr Nagel as one of Europe’s most respected economic leaders, guiding Germany’s central bank during a period of profound global change.
According to the FPA, [h]is steady leadership has been instrumental in safeguarding monetary stability, navigating inflationary pressures, and strengthening Europe’s economic resilience.
I feel deeply honoured to receive this prestigious award,
the Bundesbank President said. At a time when trans-Atlantic relationships involve significant challenges, I see the award as a recognition of shared values,
he added. What may at first seem like two distinct worlds – foreign policy and central banking – are, in fact, bound by a shared mission: the pursuit of stability and international cooperation,
Mr Nagel continued.
The award will be presented at the Harvard Club of New York City on Monday, 20 October 2025. Past recipients include former US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, former ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and most recently Banque de France President François Villeroy de Galhau.
Founded in 1918, the Foreign Policy Association is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organisation based in New York City. It sees itself as a catalyst for strengthening democracy by encouraging citizens to participate in the foreign policy process and by developing awareness, understanding and informed opinion on US foreign policy and global issues.
