Deutsche Bundesbank launches app for smartphones and tablets

The Deutsche Bundesbank has launched its own app for smartphones and tablets, which is available for download free of charge. This new app provides users with the latest news on Bundesbank publications, matters of interest and key dates, all in one convenient location. With the app, the Bundesbank is expanding its range of information for mobile devices.

Users can customise the app's home screen, known as the dashboard, by selecting from press releases, speeches, interviews, topical issues as well as press dates and events. Users can filter content according to topic, allowing them to gain a quick overview of the core business areas, and dates and contacts can be saved to their calendar and contacts list. Just like on the Bundesbank's website, the app provides registered press representatives with access to a password-protected area where they can call up information and announcements ahead of time.

The app enables enhanced readability of publications on mobile devices. Users can also save the content to their devices directly, enabling them to use the app offline.

A module on banknote recognition explains the key security features of euro banknotes. The app identifies euro banknotes and shows where their security features are located. Alternatively, an interactive banknote gallery provides a host of information on the individual banknote denominations.

"With this app, we are opening up an additional communication channel through which we can keep the public up to date on the latest Bundesbank matters via their mobile devices," said Michael Best, Head of the Bundesbank's Communications Department. "We look forward to receiving constructive criticism, which will help us to further develop the app to meet the needs of our users.

The app is available for download free of charge in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
