Services Trade by Enterprise Characteristics (STEC)

The statistics on services trade by enterprise characteristics enable a sound assessment of enterprises involved in international trade in services. They provide a valuable foundation for economic policy decisions and analyses.

Manufacturing enterprises (NACE code: C) played a leading role in international trade in services in 2023. They generated the highest receipts in services trade, accounting for 25 %. On the expenditure side, they also accounted for the highest share, at 20 %. This shows that manufacturing plays a significant role on both the receipts and expenditure sides.

Transporting and storage companies (NACE code: H) were also a significant presence in international trade in services. They made a considerable contribution (17 %) to receipts. On the expenditure side, however, their share was significantly lower, at 9 %.

International trade in services is largely dominated by large enterprises with more than 250 employees. Across all sectors of the economy, the share of turnover generated by services provided by these large enterprises was 88 %. The manufacturing share, which stood at 97 %, is particularly noteworthy. There were no notable differences between the receipts and expenditure of these large enterprises, which indicates that large enterprises are strongly represented on both the receipts and expenditure sides.
