€10 collectors’ coin “Emergency services“ with a blue polymer ring

2026 – Emergency services €10 collectors' coin with a red polymer ring

The German government has decided to mint a €10 collector coin entitled “Emergency services”, which is scheduled for issue on 23 April 2026. This coin is the fifth in a series called “In the service of society”. The series brings into focus the particular significance of professional and volunteer emergency personnel, who are essential to the functioning of our society and the lives of each and every one of us. Each coin in the series features a polymer ring in a colour that is characteristic for the occupational group in question.

The coin consists of two different cupronickel alloys and a red polymer ring. It weighs 9.8g, has a diameter of 28.75mm and will be made available both in mint condition and with a proof-like finish. The mint condition coins will be brought into circulation at their face value (€10) by the Deutsche Bundesbank. The collector quality coins with a proof-like finish will be priced higher than their face value and can be ordered from Münze Deutschland (Germany’s official sales agency for collector coins). Münze Deutschland will announce the exact price and the specific ordering conditions in good time prior to the issue date.

The coin was designed by Berlin-based artist Anna Hrecka (picture side) and Patrick Niesel of Röthenbach an der Pegnitz (reverse).

At the centre of the picture side is a detailed depiction of rescuers in action. This scene is framed by skilfully crafted images of emergency vehicles: an ambulance and a rescue helicopter. An ECG line traces the image horizon until it reaches the ambulance – which displays the common European emergency number 112 – near the right-hand edge of the coin. The winning design is persuasive because it places people at the heart of the rescue process, whilst also including the equipment they use. The realistic depiction of a roadside emergency conveys authenticity. The very precise and intricate images of the people encourage the viewer to identify with emergency personnel.

The reverse, which will be used for all coins in the series, features an eagle framed by the words “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, the value and denomination, the year 2026, the twelve stars of Europe and the mint mark “A” (Berlin), “D” (Munich), “F” (Stuttgart), “G” (Karlsruhe) or “J” (Hamburg), depending on where the coin was minted.

The coin’s smooth edge is engraved with the inscription: “IM DIENST DER GESELLSCHAFT” (IN THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY)
