G7 Quantum Technologies Working Group
The G7 Quantum Technologies Working Group (QTWG) is a multi-year working group established to examine the implications of quantum technologies for central banks and the financial system. The Banque de France and the Bank of Canada serve as co-chairs of the group.
About the G7 Quantum Technologies Working Group
The QTWG was established in June 2025 following the G7 Leaders’ Kananaskis statement, which identified quantum technologies as a strategic priority.
It brings together central banks to develop a shared understanding of the implications of quantum technologies for the financial system, including both risks to data and communication security and emerging opportunities for financial and central banking activities.
The group conducts analytical work and exploratory initiatives focused on the assessment of risks and opportunities related to quantum technologies, and support informed dialogue, following a non-prescriptive approach, and coordination across jurisdictions in a context of evolving technological uncertainty.
QTWG Co-Chairs and members meet regularly to advance workstreams and exchange views on developments in the quantum landscape. The Co-Chairs report the group’s progress to the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
